GARY WALKER.....BASS PLAYER WITH 'LAST GANG IN TOWN'.

Born in Liverpool, 1964. Lived all my life in Runcorn, Cheshire (apart from between 8 - 18 when I lived in Frodsham)
Life Mottos...
*People laugh at me because I'm different...I laugh at them because they're all the same...
*Evil prevails when good men fail to act...
*Never trust anything that bleeds for a week and doesn't die...
Music...
I was brought up listening to the Top 40 Hit Parade on Radio every Sunday evening with my parents....then one day it happened...I heard 'Anarchy In The UK' for the first time and it triggered a switch in my head. I knew straight away that this was my kind of music, and being a rebellious teenager it suited my personality down to the ground. I was a 'Punk Rocker'.....
Me and my dear old friend Jonny Dry used to get the train into Liverpool at the weekend and go to 'Probe' record shop and 'Extremes' clothes shop in the underground arcade. We met the 'big city' Punks, went to concerts, bought records and clothes and took it all back to 'little' Frodsham...The locals, including our parents, were not impressed but we were Punks and we proudly stuck up two fingers to anyone who dared to question our right to be so.
Next up was to form a band, we couldn't play but we bought cheap, crappy gear and jammed in the garage until we could knock a tune out. My first band, Overdose, with Jonny on drums only lasted for one gig but it was enough for me to realise I wanted to play LIVE music and be in a band.
As soon as I got a job I saved up and bought a decent bass and an amp but unfortunately Punk had died out a bit so I had to join 'Rock' bands. Don't get me wrong, I loved all the 'Heavy Metal' and 'Rock' bands like AC/DC, Whitesnake and Saxon etc but I was always a Punk at heart. Over the years I played in a few 'Rock' bands but they would never touch anything by the Damned or Dead Kennedys...etc So I was thrilled when I eventually met drummer Stez Styx.....we both got on really well and we loved the same music...Punk. We played together in a covers band called 'Next Best Thing' doing covers by Foo Fighters, Stereophonics, Manics...etc and then we formed DRIVER, an excellent original material band. After rehearsals we'd always go back to each others house for a beer and a chat and we'd always end up playing all the old classic punk songs.
After Driver split up (too old my arse) me and Stez met up every week and talked about how much we'd love to put a Punk band together but there was no-one around, then after about a year of doing nothing came the inspirational internet search which found us the lads that would become LAST GANG IN TOWN. You know the rest.....
Thanks...
To my dear friends Stez, Mark and Tony for making my life-long dream become a reality.
To ALL the 'band-mates' who I've shared time with over the years from whom I've learned so much.
To the many friends I've made along the way, especially Guy, PJ, Nathan, Graham B, Spike, Craig, Pete C, Nige and many more.
To my current partner and family for understanding that I'm gonna do this no matter what.....
And to all the horrible cunts I've met in my life (mostly possessive, manipulating, lying, split-arse women) who have made me appreciate the value of loyalty, friendship and true love when it comes along.....
Thank you.
