LAST GANG IN TOWN were formed in the autumn of 2006 following an inspired internet search by bass player Gary. Four, like-minded blokes, strangers, living miles apart, but with 100% commitment and a real passion for Punk music, came together to form a band they'd always wanted to be a part of...an 'authentic' 70's Punk tribute band covering Punk classics by Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Damned, Dead Kennedys, The Buzzcocks, Stiff Little Fingers, The Ruts, UK Subs, Sham 69 and more..... music we grew up with.
Gary and Stez had played together before in a few 'Rock' bands over the years mainly playing covers, but we'd always go back to each others houses after a rehearsal for a beer and a chat and listen to music. We'd always end up playing The Damned and Dead Kennedys and we both said how much we'd love to be in a 'real' Punk band. Gary found an internet site called www.musicians-in-your-city.co.uk where he found guitarist Mark. A meeting/audition was arranged and, with Gary singing, we soon realized that we were onto something good, although Gary insisted that the band needed a 'real' singer to front the band.....another web search on www.punkoiuk.co.uk found lead singer Tony. Tony gelled with the band immediately and proved his commitment by traveling every week from Yorkshire to Cheshire for rehearsals.
It was easy putting a set together, in fact it was too easy, as we now play up to 50 songs.........all classics from the punk era. By March 2007 we were ready to gig and played at a 'social club' in Haslington near Crewe. It proved to us that the LAST GANG IN TOWN were a 'real' band and ready to become, with a lot of hard work and commitment, the best around.
At the time of writing this piece, December 2007, we have been together for just over a year and have formed into the most talented, powerful, energetic, talked about ...and most importantly... the most 'authentic' 70's punk tribute band around. Our popularity and full-on authentic punk show has taken us all across the North of England and we are already taking bookings for 'next' December.
We've had a great time so far and long may it continue....we have played in some great venues and met many new friends on the way. We have also bonded into a tight unit both as a band and as friends. Thanks to the internet and the power of Punk..........we are LAST GANG IN TOWN.
